SOURCE
This information was provided to Sandra Johnston of Oklahoma City by Ms. Jessie Fondy of Chickasha OK and Ms Esther Pratt of Nashville TN. Their source has been stated to be census data, records from Dickson Co. TN courthouse, a paper found in the McMillan (Elijah Jr. 2nd wife) family bible, and a ledger kept by Calvin Monroe Walker. Ms Pratt states also that much of this information came from Ms Wilda Beasley of Gainesville MO. The addresses of these researchers are available by special request to the Walker Cousins Home Page editors.

Notes on Elijah Sr
From Ms Pratt: I've never found Elijah's father's name any where. His mother was named Elizabeth Walker.

I have found an Elijah Walker killed by Indians south of Nashville but it don't seem to fit!!

From Ms. Fondy: Elijah, Sr and Mary Elizabeth (Jessie later refered to her as Mary Piney) McGill had five sons: Joseph, George William, Jacob M., James, and Elijah, Jr. There were also daughters refered to, however, never any names given. Elijah Sr. was of Irish descent, born in Scotland. He came to the colonies around 1750 and fought in the American Revolution. He ended up in North Carolina, then moved to the area of Maury County, TN where he claimed land on the basis of a land warrant earned by serving in the war. While clearing the land, he was killed by indians; this was in 1802. Mary packed up her family and moved west. She filed for a land warrant which was reportedly 9 miles S.W. of the current Charlotte, TN. There she found a wood shack/cabin structure built by indians. James was ill and died shortly after arriving there. She buried him beside the cabin. When Mary died she was buried beside James. The land was divided between George William and Jacob from what I understood. I don't know just how or why she didn't mention Elijah, Jr. in that land deal. And how about Joseph?

Notes on Mary Elizabeth "Piney" McGill

From Ms. Pratt:
I've never found Elijah's father's names any where. His mother was named Elizabeth Walker. In 1820 she was living with 2 sons, ages between 16 and 18 years old.

The court house at Charlotte, Tn. in Dickson Co. was destroyed and court records were blown in to other Counties. Some were found.

The record of Elijah to Polly McMillan was blown from the Marriage Book but the original was in a drawer in the Court House was saved and I have a copy.
Elizabeth Walker owned land on the road between Charlotte Tn. and Vernon in now Hickman Co. Tn. Her land was sold at her death to Wm. B. Dodson on same road. Wm. B. Dodson (apr (?) 1826) was to over see road from his house to what is called Contrary Pond. (There is a community named Pond on this road today) with hands George Brazzell, James Heastly, Jacob ? -Thomas Bullian ? Sullivan to over see road beginning the Vernon road and work to what is called Contrary Pond with hands Eli Crow - Isaac Crow, John Meek - Johnthan S. Croggins - Jesse Alexander, Isaac Walker and hands - Wm Willy - Wm Wright - Richard Wright -

Ms. Pratt states she has found court records from Dickson Co. Tn showing: Elizabeth Walker gave two slaves to two of her children; a slave girl named Ailee to Elijah and if she should have children the 1st living child to go to Polly Brazzele, the 2nd child to Elizabeth Heartly - the 3rd child to Betha Furman(?). He should have any children more than 3 for his self after giving to his 3 sisters as before stated Jan. 1823. The same day George H. Walker got from his mother a negro boy.

Later Archibald Walker came to court and said Elizabeth Walker was of unsound mind when she gave the slaves to Eljah and George H.. The 1st time didn't work so he brought it into court the 2nd time--

I have the same land Elizabeth Walker owned at her death "from Wm. Gates to Richard _________ no last name -on waters of Yellow Creek in Dickson Co. TN 48 acres. Survey May 11th, 1808, also 8 acres.

I have not been able to find how the land got from Richard _______ to Elizabeth - also have not seen any mention of a Richard Walker in Dickson Co. Tn.

From Ms. Fondy:

While clearing the land,Elijah was killed by indians; this was in 1802. Mary packed up her family and moved west. She filed for a land warrant which was reportedly 9 miles S.W. of the current Charlotte, TN. There she found a wood shack/cabin structure built by indians. James was ill and died shortly after arriving there. She buried him beside the cabin. When Mary died (she didn't specify what year), she was buried beside James. The land was divided between George William and Jacob from what I understood. I don't know just how or why she didn't mention Elijah, Jr. in that land deal. And how about Joseph?
